Thaan Tabletop Charcoal Grill

I’ve cooked over a lot of charcoal on a lot of different grills, and this behemoth is the most impressive grill I’ve ever laid steak upon. It’s thick, heavy, huge, and an absolute treat to cook on! Whatever the opposite of a lightweight travel-friendly grill is, this is that. If you drove your car into this grill, the grill would win. It’s an absolute UNIT.

If that sounds like hyperbole (it isn’t, except maybe the car bit), let me explain why I love this thing so much.

The Thaan Charcoal Grill was born from the need for a grill that could stand up to the rigours of a professional kitchen. Ceramic grills are fantastic, but they don’t like being dropped by line cooks very much. The body is constructed from solid steel lined with ceramic fibre and fire bricks along the bottom for extreme heat retention. The entire thing breaks down into machine-washable parts (besides the fire bricks), allowing it to be thoroughly cleaned after each service.

This kaiju of a konro is also very well suited to backyard grilling. The 25″x8.5″ cooking surface allows you to feed a crowd with ease, or heat only one side with charcoal and use the other for warming. It won’t be the grill you take camping or move often, but if you have a good spot to plant it, you’ll enjoy decades of delicacies cooked off this thing.

When it comes time to cook, it performs as well as it looks. It gets crazy hot, and the grates get hot almost instantly. The sturdy air vents adjust easily, allowing you to control your airflow and, thus, the intensity of your heat. The space below the grates is large enough to accommodate foil-wrapped starches, while the grilling space is more than large enough to cook a couple of steaks and a full selection of vegetables all at once.
